data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Racial Trauma Module (RTM) is a psychoeducational module that can be delivered as a standalone module, as part of the CBITS curriculum,\u00a0or as\u00a0an add-on to\u00a0the SSET curriculum. It provides youth with an overview of the effects of racism on levels of traumatic stress. In addition, the RTM provides school staff and adults with the foundational tools they need to acknowledge the\u00a0effects of racism on youth by providing skills to create a space for students to developed and piloted by Dr. Won-Fong Lau Johnson at a juvenile justice facility in\u00a0the state of\u00a0Washington from 2017 to 2020. The research and evaluation for the RTM was funded by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dcyf.wa.gov\/practice\/practice-improvement\/ojj\/wa-pcjj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington State Partnership Council on Juvenile Justice with Office of Juvenile Justice<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Since the initial development of the module (originally named CBITS-CA, now called CBITS+RTM), research has demonstrated promising results. A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcyf.wa.gov\/news\/echo-glen-completes-cbits-ca-pilot-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pilot study<\/a>\u00a0conducted by Dr. Won-Fong Lau Johnson in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitypassageways.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Passageways<\/a> at a juvenile justice facility indicated that the module increased staff members\u2019 ability to identify the impact of racism on traumatic stress. Results for youth participants indicated a positive trend toward a decrease in depression and, for youth of color in particular, a positive trend toward a decrease in anxiety symptoms. To complete the module in its entirety, providers should reserve up to two 50-minute group sessions with students.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:1440}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>The RTM has been implemented in schools, juvenile justice facilities, and community mental health settings.
