Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS)
The CBITS program is a school-based, group and individual intervention that uses cognitive-behavioral techniques. It is designed to reduce symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PSTD), depress, and behavioral problems, as well as to improve functioning, grades and attendance, peer and parent support, and coping skills.
-
- Overview of child trauma, PTSD, and their mental health and academic consequences
- History and evidence base of CBITS
- Session-by-session demonstrations and supervised practice of each core concept for child group and individual sessions, including how to make the material culturally and contextually relevant to audience members
- Review of parent and teacher sessions
- Engagement activities for implementation and site planning
Bounce Back
An adaptation of CBITS, the Bounce Back program helps school-based clinicians work with children in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Like CBITS, the program is intended for students exposed to at least one traumatic event who are experiencing traumatic stress symptoms.
