Carl Sumi, PhD
Dr. Sumi is a senior education researcher in the Center for Education and Human Services at SRI, where he conducts research on emotional and behavioral disabilities among children. Additionally, he is the co-principal investigator of the National Effectiveness Study of First Step to Success, a large-scale randomized trial of the First Step to Success intervention, as well as the co-principal investigator of a randomized trial investigating the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) in the San Francisco Unified School District. He participated in the development of the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) practice guide Reducing Behavior Problems in the Elementary School Classroom, is a certified reviewer for the WWC, and serves as one of the content experts for the WWC Children with Emotional Disturbance Topic Review.
Dr. Sumi’s work is fully funded by United States Department of Education Grant Number R324A110027, a $3,383,527 grant awarded to SRI International.
