Sheryl Kataoka, MD, MSHS
As a clinician and health services researcher, Dr. Kataoka is devoted to improving access to and quality of mental health care for ethnic minority children and their families through school-based services. As co-chairperson of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry's Schools Committee, Dr. Kataoka helps expand and improve mental health services in schools across the United States. Through a community-academic partnership, she collaborated with colleagues at LAUSD and RAND in developing the CBITS program to be culturally sensitive for the multiethnic students in Los Angeles. With NIMH funding, Dr. Kataoka is now studying how the Learning Collaborative model impacts the implementation effectiveness of evidence-based interventions such as CBITS in school settings.
